On-site metallography

Alongside the metallographic examination of samples in the laboratory it is furthermore possible to carry out ambulant metallographic examinations on the components directly on site and thus to assess the structure of the built-in component.

For this aim the surface of the component is locally ground, polished and finally assessed with an optical microscope in order to ascertain the structure. In addition structure imprints can be taken by surface replica technology and subsequently be examined in the laboratory with an optical microscope and with a scanning electron microscope and the results can be documented.

A typical case for the application of this technology is the assessment of creep stress damage and heat damage in power plants and industrial facilities.
